JAMES CARPENTER

JAMES CARPENTER
James Carpenter (b. 1948) is an American light artist and designer. He works at the intersections of art, architecture, and engineering. Over the past 50 years, he has promoted a distinctive vision based on the use of natural light and glass as the foundational elements of the built environment. Carpenter also develops custom daylighting systems for architectural structures that reduce reliance on electrical lighting. He has been selected to design numerous public spaces, and founded  the cross-disciplinary design firm James Carpenter Design Associates in 1979. Carpenter has received numerous national and international awards in recognition of his practice, including an Academy Award in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the Institute Honour Award from the American Institute of Architects.
