Data & Research
Stay informed with the data and insights that help you understand how Singapore's arts sector is evolving.
Understanding Singapore's arts and culture landscape starts with evidence. We commission and compile research to inform our policies, strategies and programmes — from industry data to studies on how Singaporeans engage with the arts.
Our commissioned studies, including the Population Survey on the Arts and the Arts and Culture Employment Study (ACES), complement the Singapore Cultural Statistics (opens in new tab) to help us evaluate the arts' impact on Singaporeans and the health of the sector. The Culture Academy's resource library (opens in new tab) also offers a rich collection of culture sector research materials.
Knowing our audiences — current and future — is central to how we work. We use data to understand different audience segments, develop strategies that encourage greater arts attendance and participation, and create new entry points for audiences. As digital consumption patterns shift, research on digital engagement increasingly shapes how we think about audience development. We work closely with cultural institutions, arts organisations, practitioners and universities on research segmented by art form and audience demographics.
Research on the arts' role in city living, health, education and community-building strengthens our advocacy and helps policy-makers, funders and the public appreciate the full value of the arts to society. It also helps us articulate what makes Singapore arts distinctive — creative content that fosters national pride, speaks to our identity and positions Singapore on the global stage. Practice-based research, including archival work and documentation, deepens the creative process and affirms the work of our artists, supporting the recognition they deserve.
