Objectives
* To introduce students to the techniques
of choosing, learning and telling
stories.
* To build students confidence in their
storytelling abilities.
Synopsis of Performance / Outline of workshop
This workshop will be individually tailored according to the age and abilities of the students.
* Why tell stories?
* How to find stories that are suitable for
telling?
* Techniques for learning story structure.
* Techniques for imagining a story through
different sensory modes.
* Performance tips.
* Storytelling with props.
* Storytelling practice.
Highlights students can expect from Programme
Students will learn from skilled tellers;pioneers of the storytelling movement in Singapore.
The workshop offers a lively hands on approach to equipping students with basic storytelling skills. Students will discover the fun of telling stories. They will discover how to learn a story without resorting to memorisation and learn techniques to tap their imagination to make the story uniquely their own. The workshop will include opportunities for the students to listen to a skilled teller and for them to refine and gain confidence in their own telling skills.
At the end of the programme students will learn to / understand
The programme will help the students develop their:
* enjoyment of stories and storytelling
* understanding of storytelling techniques
* own storytelling style
* confidence in their storytelling
abilities
* knowledge and appreciation of oral culture
and of folktales in particular
* ability to use different forms of imagination
