NAC Arts Education Programme

National Arts Council Arts Education Unit

The National Arts Council believes that all students should have access to quality arts education programmes. Its arts education mission is to develop students’ potential for creativity and expression through the arts as well as deepen their understanding of the arts and culture.

The NAC-AEP

One of the ways the NAC aims to achieve its mission is to ensure the availability of quality, purpose-driven programmes to cater to the wide range of student needs through the NAC Arts Education Programme (NAC-AEP).
The NAC-AEP is a database of specially selected arts education programmes by professional artists and arts groups that schools can purchase using an annual grant to subsidise part of the cost. This funding is provided by the Tote Board Arts Grant as part of the Tote Board’s efforts to encourage the development of a vibrant arts culture in schools and enable students to have access to broad-based arts education.

Programme Categories

The NAC-AEP spans 6 different art forms (Dance, Music, Theatre, Film and Multimedia, Visual Arts and Literary Arts) and consists of 3 programme categories: Arts Exposure, Arts Experience and Arts Excursion.

Arts Exposure Arts Experience Arts Excursion
Students are introduced to a particular art form. Programmes are 30 to 40 minutes in duration and presented as performances. Each programme is accompanied by an explanation on the background and development of the art form or a talk-cum-demonstration segment.

Programmes provide students with hands-on participation in the various art forms and are suitable for small groups of students. Programmes are interactive and enhance students’ skills while expanding their capacity for creative thinking.

Programmes allow students to attend performances at purpose-built performing venues and visit museums, galleries, art centres, artists' studios and theatres.
