Traditional Arts Taster Programme for Pre-Schools

The National Arts Council (NAC) developed a taster programme in collaboration with selected arts companies to introduce Singapore's traditional art forms to pre-school children aged four to six years old. To foster an appreciation of traditional arts in an engaging and accessible way for young audiences, legends are presented through dance and storytelling as well as interactive workshops.

For the 2017 edition, there were three stories for schools to select from: Chang Er, Goddess of the Moon, Badang, The Strong Man, and Rama, Hero of Ramayana. Each programme was carried out in the form of a learning journey, where students would experience a 30-minute theatrical performance infused with traditional music, dance, movement and storytelling elements. This was followed by workshop sessions, where students learnt about the traditional art forms in an immersive and participatory setting.
