To develop a broad-based audience and foster an environment appreciative of traditional arts through active engagement of younger audience, NAC developed a taster programme to introduce Singapore's traditional art forms to young children aged four to six years old.
The taster programme aims to introduce traditional art forms in an engaging and accessible way for pre-school children. It is a collaborative effort with ACT 3 International, Bhaskar's Arts Academy, Era Dance Theatre and Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre to present traditional Chinese, Malay and Indian dance through storytelling as well as interactive workshops.
For the 2017 edition, three stories drawn from Chinese, Malay and Indian legends were presented. Each programme was carried out in the form of a learning journey, where students would experience a 30-minute theatrical performance infused with traditional music, dance, movements and storytelling elements. This was followed by workshop sessions, where students learnt about traditional art forms in an immersive and participatory setting.
