The National Arts Council (NAC) is pleased to announce the open call for the Golden Point Award 2013 (GPA), Singapore’s only multi-lingual national creative writing competition. Into its 11th edition, the GPA 2013 opens for registration from 1 March to 30 June 2013.
Mr Paul Tan, Director, Sector Development (Literary Arts), NAC says, “The Golden Point Award remains Singapore’s most important multi-lingual platform to discover and showcase emerging literary talents from all walks of life and of all ages. Through the competition, we hope to continue to encourage creative writing, and shine the spotlight on the next generation of new Singapore writers.”
The premier biennial competition counts writers such as Cyril Wong, Tan Chee Lay, Ishak Bin Abdul Latiff and Indrajit s/o Perumal Pillay among its list of accomplished alumni, who have gone on to active publishing and literary careers. After winning the 2nd prize for poetry at GPA 2003, Mr Wong went on to receive the NAC’s Young Artist Award for Literature in 2005 and the Singapore Literature Prize in 2006.
For the first time, NAC will work with the National Book Development Council of Singapore (The Book Council) to organise and manage the competition. The Book Council is home to several prestigious literary awards in Singapore, including the Singapore Literature Prize, SEA Write Awards and the Hedwig Anuar Children’s Book Awards, among others. The Book Council will operate as the secretariat for GPA 2013, bringing onboard their experience in organising such awards and events, as well as their ability to reach a wider public through their networks.
The results of the competition will be revealed at the GPA Prize-Giving Ceremony, which will be held during the 2013 Singapore Writers Festival in early November. Please refer to the Appendix for a fact sheet of the competition. The official entry form is available for download from the GPA website at http://bookcouncil.sg/_writers/golden_point_award.php.
