Young Pianist Clare Yeo Wins Gina Bachauer

Scholarship Piano Competition at Juilliard

Gifted young pianist Clare Yeo has chalked up another win, hot on the heels of her recent success at the 7th Annual New York Music Competition in April. On 28 May, she became the first Singaporean to clinch the Gina Bachauer Scholarship Piano Competition at The Juilliard School. The scholarship is open to Juilliard pre-college students (up till age 18).

Clare, 12, who was this year’s youngest contestant, performed pieces by four composers, Bach, Haydn, Schumann, and Prokofiev for the competition. For topping the scholarship contest, she has won a full scholarship at The Juilliard School for the next school year. When she returns for the new school year in fall, Clare will also give a solo recital at Juilliard’s Paul Hall on 23 October.

Clare won a scholarship in 2003 to study at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York. That same year, she was also awarded NAC’s Gifted Young Musicians’ Bursary, worth S$15,000 per annum, for her studies.
