42nd MIDEM

"Marché international de l'édition musicale"

27 to 31 January 2008

Cannes, France

The spotlight will be on Singapore musicians and music companies at the 42nd MIDEM, the world’s most prestigious international music fair in Cannes, France. As part of effortsto promote the Singapore music industry overseas, a delegation of 11 companies led by the National Arts Council and COMPASS with support from IE Singapore, will be setting up a Singapore Pavilion in MIDEM for the 4th year.

A Singapore Showcase, staged for the first time in MIDEM, will feature award-winning music talent Andrew Lum and Corrinne May on 29 January 2008. Leading Singaporemusic producer and founder of Ocean Butterflies International (Singapore), Billy Koh, has also been invited to speak at MIDEMNET, a high-powered music forum attended by who's who of the international music industry. Koh will speak on the topic “Asian Lessons – Learning from Pan-Asian Live Models” on 27 January 2008.

The focus for this year’s MIDEM is on Asia’s music markets, and Singapore is the only Southeast Asian market to be represented at this high-profile event. The Singapore Pavilion in MIDEM aims to position Singapore as a music powerhouse of Southeast Asia, a purveyor to new Asian content, and a gateway to extensive trade links in Asia. The mission also seeks to support Singapore’s independent record and music distribution companies in extending their international market reach and product development, as well as showcase the diversity of local creative music talent in the various music genres such as classical, jazz, and English indie music.
