International Search for Artistic Director, Singapore Biennale 2006
A global search is now on for a dynamic Artistic Director to helm the Singapore Biennale 2006. Singapore’s inaugural visual arts biennale is set to enhance Singapore’s presence in the regional and international arts scene as a key facilitator and centre for contemporary art. The Singapore Biennale is organised by the National Arts Council and the National Heritage Board of Singapore and will take place from September to November in 2006.
The Singapore Biennale aims to be a global, Asian and national forum on the ever-changing concepts of contemporary culture and visual arts. It seeks to engage cultural discussions among communities and audiences as well as address contemporary expressions in relation to identity, history and region. An event of this scale not only provides new opportunities for Singapore artists, curators and visual arts businesses, it will further develop audiences and cultivate visual arts appreciation in Singapore.
The eventual thematic framework of the Biennale will be jointly developed with the appointed Artistic Director who will have the support of a team of curators. The Biennale should engage and inspire artists to realise works of significance and quality, contribute to discussions on contemporary art and culture, and deepen audience participation through public programmes and forums.
The position of Artistic Director is open to candidates of any nationality from the cultural field, with the requisite experience in cultural project planning and management, as well as in research and publication. Candidates need to submit a two page response to the biennale concept in the form of a conceptual, curatorial and/or programming framework, in addition to a resume of their relevant experience.
The closing date for submission is 24 January 2005. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to Singapore for further discussions in February 2005. The final appointment will be made by 25 March 2005. Submissions should be sent to:
