Come June next year, the Singapore Arts Festival 2005 will offer four blockbusters in music, dance, theatre and family entertainment set to enthral audiences with their talent, precision and virtuosity. The four productions are:

  • Amber by The National Theatre Company of China (中国国家话剧院)
  • Swan Lake by The Royal Ballet (UK)
  • The Philadelphia Orchestra (USA) with Christoph Eschenbach and Lang Lang
  • Ola Kala by Les Arts Sauts (France)

The National Theatre Company of China’s production of Amber (琥 珀) is a music theatre spectacle directed by one of China’s most influential contemporary theatre director Meng Jinghui(孟京辉). Featuring Golden Horse Award and Golden Rooster Award winner Liu Ye (刘烨) and established actress Yuan Quan (袁泉), Amber depicts a powerful drama of love and deceit set in contemporary China. Amber is co-commissioned by the Singapore Arts Festival, Hong Kong Arts Festival and National Theatre Company of China.

For the first time, the full company of The Royal Ballet will grace Singapore’s shores to present an enchanting version of Tchaikovsky’s well-loved classic Swan Lake. This revered classical ballet has been closely associated with the 78-year-old premier ballet company of the United Kingdom. Next year, the 83-strong troupe will turn up in full strength to awe audiences with their exquisite blend of grace and artistry.

Devotees of classical music can look forward to two concerts by The Philadelphia Orchestra, one of the world’s leading orchestras, led by music director and conductor Christoph Eschenbach. The 104-year-old Orchestra will perform works by Mahler, Bartók, Dvořák, and Mozart, and Chinese piano prodigy Lang Lang (郎朗)will also perform Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto alongside with the Orchestra.

The awe-inspiring trapeze performers of celebrated French circus Les Arts Sauts will hold court in a giant tent.  The performance Ola  Kala (All’s Well) will entrance young and old, as they sit back in deck chairs and enjoy the breathtaking moves executed mid-air with an artistic touch. Families can enjoy savings of $40 when they purchase the Special Family Package of 4 tickets priced at $128.
