Arts Xplosion, a free comprehensive listing of arts events in Singapore, is being relaunched tomorrow with a hip, new look!

Published jointly by the National Arts Council (NAC), Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and TODAY, the revamped A4-sized, 16-page colour guide will hit the streets fortnightly every Monday, starting 14 June.

The new magazine-style Arts Xplosion will provide both Singaporeans and visitors with a complete calendar of arts events and activities, ranging from concerts, exhibitions, performances, festivals, to talks and even auditions.

Said Mr Lee Suan Hiang, Chief Executive Officer of the National Arts Council: “Arts Xplosion is an important tool as arts groups are becoming more and more dependent on this free publicity platform to publicise their arts events. At the same time, we decided to revamp and relaunch Arts Xplosion to make it more comprehensive, accessible and user-friendly for readers. To extend its shelf-life and for consumers’ convenience, this guide is now distributed as a standalone booklet for easy reference."

Mr Gerald Lee, STB’s Assistant Chief Executive (Leisure), noted: “The Singapore Tourism Board is very happy to continue to support the revamped Arts Xplosion, as it is the only fortnightly arts guide that keeps its readers updated on the growing number of arts activities in Singapore. This handy, easy-to-read guide is an excellent platform for us to showcase the unique blend of colourful cultural events and vibrant performances that Singapore has to offer, to our visitors from overseas and Singaporeans alike.”

Added TODAY Chief Executive Officer, Mr Mano Sabnani: “TODAY has been in partnership with the NAC and STB in respect of Arts Xplosion since June 2001. The original four-page arts events guide grew into an eight-page, full colour fortnightly must-have for arts lovers a year later in 2002. The three partners are now taking it one big step further as a standalone magazine with 16 pages, appearing fortnightly and distributed free. Arts groups will continue to enjoy free exposure and we look forward to increased readership and advertising support." Arts Xplosion has been distributed fortnightly as a four-, and later, eight-page, full-colour insert in TODAY since its launch on 24 June 2001.

With the changing arts scene, NAC decided to revise the guide for cost-effectiveness and to make it more user-friendly for readers.

The advantages of the revamped Arts Xplosion, which has a print volume of 60,000 copies, are:

  • Less wastage as it is being distributed “On Demand” (for the public to pick up) at selected points/outlets together with TODAY
  • Longer retention period and value as it is being circulated as a standalone publication, instead of as an insert in TODAY
  • The new version is hip, trendy and more focussed in content, with the flexibility to increase space if required
  • Free topical fortnightly listing that is by far, the most comprehensive in town

Members of the public can pick up free copies of the new look Arts Xplosion at special stands located next to the TODAY racks at selected MRT stations. Other distribution points include Kallang and Victoria Theatres, Esplanade Library and office, Jubilee Hall, the University Culture Centre, Singapore Changi Airport, SISTIC and TicketCharge outlets, and at selected Starbucks and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf outlets and hotels.
