Nominations for 2003 Patron of the Arts and Arts Supporter Awards Now Open
National Arts Council’s (NAC) prestigious annual awards for arts sponsorship have opened for nominations. Both individuals and organisations who have contributed to the arts industry for the past one year may apply.
The Patron of the Arts Award honours contributions of $50,000 and above. As Singapore’s foremost recognition for arts sponsorship, the award is conferred yearly by the Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts. It comprises the four categories of Distinguished Patron of the Arts Award, Patron of the Arts Award, Friend of the Arts Award and Associate of the Arts Award.
The Arts Supporter Award, a new award launched January 2000, honours contributions between $10,000 and $49,999 and was instituted in appreciation of sponsors not being acknowledged under the annual Patron of the Arts Award.
To be given out later this year, the awards are given in appreciation of individuals and organisations who have contributed towards the promotion and organisation of artistic activities in Singapore, either in cash or in kind. Contributions must have been made during the period of 1 January to 31 December 2002.
Total arts sponsorship recorded for the year 2001 is $37.09 million. 184 individuals and corporate sponsors, including some 62 new contributors, received the Patron of the Arts and Arts Supporter Awards in ceremonies last year.
Nomination forms are obtainable at Kallang Theatre, Victoria Theatre, NAC office and website at www.nac.gov.sg. All nominations must reach the NAC by 28 February 2003.
Details of the awards can be found in the Annex attached or at NAC's website.
