To kick start Noise 2006, Mr Teo Ser Luck, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry ofCommunity Development, Youth and Sports, will officially open the Noise 2006 Showcase @ Marina Square on 9 November. The public can view Noise works and enjoy live performances by Noise artists at the 3-day Showcase until 12 November.  They can also vote for their favourite works at the Noise website, which will permanently store and showcase the works as a gateway to a wider global audience.

The works released were selected from near 5,000 submissions by some 2,000 young artists in the Open categories, sponsored competitions and Noise Apprenticeship Programme.  The competitions were sponsored by Pringles, SONY BMG, MSN and StarHub for participants to create new designs for their products.  Winners of the sponsored competitions will receive prizes at the Opening Event.

“Noise has given young people a visible platform to unleash their creativity and succeeded in encouraging broad-based participation from youths.  This second installation of Noise has also been successful in attracting more partners, sponsors and professionals from the creative industries.  It has provided invaluable opportunities for youths to be spotted and get a head start in the creative industries,” said Ms Chua Ai Liang, Director for Audience Development, National Arts Council.

Noise 2006 will feature works by 26 apprentices from the Noise Apprenticeship Programme.  They were mentored by 17 leading names in the music, design and art industries for seven weeks from 15 June to 30 July 2006.  The Noise mentors includePeter Chadwick (Artistic Director, ZIP Design (UK)), Prudencio DengCoy Miel (Senior Executive Artist, Singapore Press Holdings), Jackson Tan (Creative Director / Partner, Black Design, and Founding Partner, Phunk Studio), Kelley Cheng (Editorial Director, Page One Publishing, and Creative Director, Page One Group) and Desmond Goh (Musician, Electrico).
