Top Pianist Feted at National Piano & Violin Competition 2007!
Emerging tops from the stiff competition of the Artist Category this evening was Wang Haijie, who won for himself the coveted 1st prize title and a cash prize of $5,000. Eleven other pianists also received their trophies, certificates and cash prizes at the Prize Presentation Ceremony, officiated by Dr Lee Boon Yang, Minister for Information, Communications & the Arts, this evening at the Victoria Concert Hall.
Haijie is currently pursuing a Diploma in Music Performance at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, under the tutelage of Prof Yu Chun Yee. His first teacher was his grandfather, before he entered the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing at the age of twelve. His performance credits include winning prizes in piano competitions in China, Italy and Singapore.
The evening also featured the Singapore Festival Orchestra, involving some Competition alumni. Since its formalisation in 1997, the National Piano & Violin Competition has become a premier international music platform for identifying and nurturing young talent.
