Ticket Sales for Masterclasses & Prize Winners’ Concert Begin This Week! 

 

The National Chinese Music Competition, a biennial competition regularly spotting the most promising young talent in Chinese music, is set to be more intensive than ever this year. With the highest number of total entries since its revamp in 1998, the Competition received a total of 265 entries, an 8% increase from the 244 entries in 2004 and more than double the figure in 1998.

 

Members of the public will have the opportunity to savour exhilarating performances by the best in the competition at the Prize Presentation Ceremony and Prize Winners’ Concert. They can also book their tickets for the masterclasses conducted by the overseasadjudicators, to observe these music experts at work with the competitors for 5 solo instruments and in the field of conducting.  Admissions to the Preliminaries and Finals are free.  Tickets to the Prize Presentation Ceremony and Prize Winners’ Concert are priced at $10, and tickets to the masterclasses are priced at $5. Tickets will be available at all SISTIC outlets from 18 October 2006. 

 

Organised by the National Arts Council and sponsored by the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan, the National Chinese Music Competition aims to identify music talent and develop their performing skills. It serves as a platform for music excellence and provides opportunities for young musicians to perform in a competitive setting before an international jury. This year’s panel includes Cultural Medallion recipients, Tay Teow Kiat and Phoon Yew Tien, and Young Artist Award recipient, Ling Hock Siang; as well as renowned musicians from China (details in Annex 2).
