Are You Singapore's Next Literary Star?

Singapore’s premier creative writing competition opens for entries

Aspiring creative writers, here is a chance to make your mark!

The SPH-NAC Golden Point Award, Singapore’s national creative writing competition, is open for submissions. The multi-lingual literary competition welcomes entries from the poetry and short story genres in English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil languages. Organised by the National Arts Council (NAC) in conjunction with the Singapore Writers Festival, the biennial competition, which started in 1993, aims to identify and nurture promising literary talent, develop the literary penmanship of writers in Singapore and create a conducive environment for creative thinking and literary expression in Singapore.

Open to Singaporeans and Permanent Residents, the competition is the nation’s only multi-lingual platform to discover and showcase new and emerging literary talent.  Those who have yet to publish a full solo work, are eligible to enter the competition. Poetry entries must be submitted in a collection with a minimum of five poems, and not exceeding eight poems. Short story entries should not exceed 5,000 words. There is no specific theme for the competition. Entries need to be submitted by 30 June 2011.

A panel of judges will be appointed for each respective language category to assess and select the winning entries.

The results will be revealed at the SPH-NAC Golden Point Award Presentation Ceremony, which will be held during the Singapore Writers Festival held from 22 to 30 October 2011. The nation’s largest literary event, the 2011 Festival is its 14th edition and is making its mark internationally with its multi-lingual and multi-disciplinary programming strategy.

The official entry form is available for download from the NAC website at http://www.nac.gov.sg. Hard copies will also be available from the National Arts Council (Goodman Arts Centre, 90 Goodman Road, Blk A #01-01), the public libraries, and various arts venues.

The Singapore Press Holdings and the Singapore Press Holdings Foundation are the Official Sponsors for SPH-NAC Golden Point Award 2011. The competition is also supported by National Library Board and Elephant & Coral.
