Singapore, 3 November 2015 – Golden Point Award 2015 received the highest number of entries at 778, since the inception of the premier writing competition in 1993. From this bumper crop of entries, 43 budding writers have been selected to be lauded for their literary excellence at an awards ceremony in The Arts House held in conjunction with the Singapore Writers Festival. The Guest-of-Honour for the 2015 Golden Point Award ceremony is Mr Baey Yam Keng, Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.


Held bi-annually, the 12th edition of the competition honours the creativity of budding Singapore writers from all walks of life. Entrants and winners range from students to academics, homemakers to professionals. In addition, this competition is Singapore’s only national multi-lingual creative writing platform for Short Story and Poetry.


“The Golden Point Award is Singapore’s national writing competition for undiscovered and new talent, and the National Arts Council is very heartened by the number of entries received. The Council supports young, emerging writers through a number of funding initiatives, mentorship programmes and school outreach activities, and we hope that our competition winners will contribute to the Singapore and international writing scene in their literary journey,” says Mr Khor Kok Wah, Senior Director, Sector Development (Literary Arts/Singapore Writers Festival)  


Ms Rasiah Halil, Malay Poetry adjudicator, shares, “The top poems displayed the potential to be developed into excellent poetry writing in the future. All aspiring writers must be encouraged to give this competition a shot so that the literary circle can continue to grow.”


The 2015 Golden Point Awards is organised by the National Arts Council and managed by The Arts House. All winning entries will be made available to the public at from 3 November 2015.
