10 Artists honoured for Excellence & Engagement

Their vision, creative excellence and commitment to engaging the wider community through their respective artistic disciplines have enriched and elevated our cultural landscape. For their contributions, these four inspiring arts practitioners have been conferred the 2011 Cultural Medallion by the President of Singapore: theatre practitioner Atin Amat, lyricist Yusnor Ef, visual artist Lim Yew Kuan and composer Kelly Tang.
At the same ceremony, the Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, also presented the Young Artist Award to six artists for commitment to their disciplines and efforts to connect with audiences in Singapore and overseas. This year’s recipients are Ang Song Ming for visual arts, Troy Chin Chien Wen for literary arts, Lim Woan Wen and Peter Sau for theatre and Nawaz Mohammad Mirajkar and Joshua Tan Kang Ming for music
The Cultural Medallion and the Young Artist Award are the nation’s highest honours for artists. Profiles of the recipients are at Annex 1 and Annex 2. Specialist Panels (Annex 3) were set up to evaluate public nominations, which were received between 1 March and 26 April this year.
