8 August 2019, Singapore – 9 outstanding individuals have been awarded the National Arts Council (NAC) and National Heritage Board (NHB) Scholarships this year. The scholarships nurture promising individuals who have the potential to drive the development of Singapore’s arts and culture sector. The broader range of disciplines supported by the scholarships over the years also reflects the growth and maturity of Singapore’s arts ecosystem. To support talent development in the arts and culture sector, the NAC has committed over $400,000 to six scholarship recipients while the three NHB scholarship recipients will receive more than $300,000 to further their studies.

We are also working with our stakeholders to provide meaningful opportunities for the recipients to develop and sustain their careers. At NHB, recipients have the opportunity to collaborate with international counterparts to cultivate inter-cultural understanding and develop skillsets such as cultural intelligence that are critical in the next generation of cultural leaders. The NAC is engaging our cultural institutions in a more structured way to provide meaningful work and mentorship opportunities for recipients when they return from their studies. NAC will be allocating resources to support their employment opportunities with the cultural institutions.

We hope that the scholarships will continue to encourage talented individuals to pursue varied careers in the arts, heritage and culture sectors, and contribute to the development of the landscape.
