Seize the opportunity to shine in the

2009 National Piano & Violin Competition

The prestigious platform for young classical musicians to shine on stage - National Piano and Violin Competition (NPVC), is back to unearth new talent in the western classical music scene. The 7thedition of the Competition will be held from 5 to 14 December 2009.

Organised by the National Arts Council (NAC), the biennial event aims to develop the performing skills of classical musicians and provide them with the opportunity to compete before an international panel. Registration begins now till 28 August 2009. NPVC is open to pianists and violinists aged 25 years and below.

This year, the Competition offers an expanded Concerto Set List comprising 38 concerti, an increase of 8 from the last Competition. There will be 19 each for the Piano Artist category and Violin Artist category. The expanded set list offers more challenging choices and variety for the Artist category participants.

Each instrument category is divided into four age categories - junior, intermediate, senior and artist. Participants are required to perform works from at least three out of four periods of music - Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th Century to the present. Competitors are also encouraged to offer a balanced and diverse line-up.

The competition is open to Singapore citizens and permanent residents. Foreigners studying, working or residing in Singapore are also eligible to participate in the Artist category. The top three winners of each category stand to win trophies, certificates and cash prizes ranging from $200 to $5,000.

The registration booklet is available for download from the NPVC website, close on Friday 28 August 2009, 5pm.
