42 individual and 208 corporate sponsors supported a buoyant arts scene in 2004, with their cash and in-kind contributions totalling $29.5 million.  These arts patrons will receive Singapore’s foremost recognition for arts sponsorship, the 2005 Patron of the Arts Award, from Dr Lee Boon Yang, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts at the awards ceremony.  79 patrons will be recognised for their contributions for the first time.

The total contribution of $29.5 million received in 2004 is comparable to the previous year.  In 2003, apart from two large one-off donations from the Yong Loo Lin Trust and the late Liu Kang's family which amounted to $47.6 million, the regular contributions totalled $30.1 million.

"There were some 6,000 arts events last year that enlivened the city and enriched our lives. They were made possible with the generous contributions from the private sector.  As the Council continues to grow the arts, we hope even more patrons will come forward to join us and take a greater stake in building a vibrant, creative and artistic Singapore," says Lee Suan Hiang, Chief Executive Officer, National Arts Council.
