Following four days of intense competition involving a record 103 entries, the National Arts Council is pleased to announce the winners in the following categories of the 2004 National Indian Music Competition.

Ms Elaine Ng, Deputy Director of Performing Arts Cluster Division at the National Arts Council, said “The adjudicators were impressed by the keen interest in classical Indian music in Singapore and the level of musical excellence displayed at the competition.  We are happy to have discovered exciting musical talents, some as young as eight years old and hope they will continue to pursue their passion and further develop their performing skills.”

 

As a closing highlight to the Competition, selected 1st prize winners will perform in the Prize Presentation Ceremony and Prize Winners’ Concert tomorrow night at the Victoria Theatre.  The four distinguished adjudicators, Ms Rajeswari Rajaretnam (violin/vocals), Mrs Jyoti Thakar (sitar/tabla), Mrs Srimathi Revathy Krishna (veena) and Prof T V Gopalakrishnan (vocals/mridangam), will also perform at the concert.  Admission tickets to the Prize Presentation Ceremony and Prize Winners’ Concert are available at $5, at the door.
