Students from 28 primary schools turned fashion designers in the 2004 National Arts Council (NAC)-Thumbs Up Art Competition – “I’m also a Fashion Designer” and submitted a total of 413 entries. Some 48 students will receive their prizes this Saturday at a prize presentation ceremony cum exhibition.
For the competition, aspiring young fashion designers had to design and re-create fashion items from their own chosen materials. It was divided into two categories: Group A for Primary 5 and 6 students and Group B for students in Primary 4 and below. Three types of awards - Creativity Award, Workmanship Award, Aesthetics Award - and consolation prizes will be presented for both categories. A Special Award will also be given out to five students who have submitted good art works which were not fashion-related.
The NAC-Thumbs Up Art competition was organised to promote arts appreciation among young children through art and the Chinese language. It is an annual arts education programme jointly organised by the NAC and Thumbs Up, a Chinese newspaper for primary school students.
