2003 Scholarships & Bursaries Open For Applications

 

The National Arts Council (NAC) is pleased to invite applications for its scholarships & bursaries this year. The schemes provide full or partial funding for arts students and artists to receive training in Singapore and abroad.

 

Last year, 94 arts practitioners and arts students received financial assistance totalling $1.1 million. The Council’s scholarships and bursaries are available for training in the performing, visual and literary arts, as well as in areas of arts management and technical production. The top scholarship recipients last year were Grace Lee (Music), Grace Wee (Dance) and Anuar Bin Mohd (Arts Management).

 

The following are the list of schemes available. The closing date for all applications is 30th April 2003.

 

SHELL-NAC ARTS SCHOLARSHIP (OVERSEAS)

The Scholarship is awarded to outstanding students or practicing artists to pursue full-time undergraduate or postgraduate studies in visual arts (fine art courses only), performing arts or literary arts overseas. Applicants must not have started on their course of study. Male applicants must have completed their National Service. Successful candidates are expected to fulfil a three-year service commitment to practice their art on a full or part-time basis in Singapore after the completion of their course. Grant Quantum – up to 100% of total cost of study, maximum of $100,000.

 

NAC ARTS PROFESSIONAL SCHOLARSHIP (OVERSEAS)


The Scholarship provides financial assistance to outstanding arts managers, administrators and practitioners to pursue full-time overseas undergraduate or postgraduate studies in arts management, technical design and production in the arts. Applicants must not have started on their course of study. Male applicants must have completed National Service. Successful candidates are required to serve a three-year bond through a full-time employment with an approved organisation. Employees of ministries, statutory boards, government related arts agencies and academic institutions are NOTeligible to apply. Grant Quantum – up to 100% of total cost of study, maximum of $100,000.

 

CHEN CHONG SWEE ART SCHOLARSHIP (OVERSEAS)

The Scholarship was established in commemoration of the late pioneer artist Chen Chong Swee. It is awarded to promising visual artists to undertake full-time postgraduate studies or research programs overseas. Applicants must not have started on their course of study. This is a one-time grant that is non-renewable. Grant Quantum – Up to a maximum of $25,000.

 

GIFTED YOUNG MUSICIANS BURSARY (OVERSEAS)

Sponsored by The Rotary Club of Singapore East, this Bursary is awarded to young outstanding music students, aged 18 years and below, to pursuing full-time studies at pre-tertiary music institutions overseas. Grant Quantum – Up to $15,000 per year.

 

NAC ARTS BURSARY (OVERSEAS)

The Bursary provides assistance to arts students to pursue full-time tertiary studies in the performing, literary and visual arts (fine art courses only), as well as arts administration, technical design and production overseas. The bursary is renewable annually, up to a maximum of 4 years. Grant Quantum – Between $8,000 to $15,000 per year.

 

GEORGETTE CHEN ARTS SCHOLARSHIP (LOCAL)

The Scholarship was established in commemoration of the late pioneer artist Georgette Chen. It provides assistance to first, second and third year arts students pursuing full-time diploma courses in theatre, dance, music or visual arts (fine art courses only) at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts or LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts. Grant Quantum – $2,000 per year.

 

NAC ARTS BURSARY (LOCAL)

The Bursary provides assistance to arts students pursuing full-time degree courses in theatre, dance, music or visual arts (fine art courses only) at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts or LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts taught in association with international tertiary institutions. Students undertaking the Theatre Training and Research Programme offered by the Practice Performing Arts School are also eligible. It is renewable annually up to a maximum of 4 years. Grant Quantum – Between $4,000 to $8,000 per year.
