NAC Violin Loan Scheme

Objective of Scheme
The Scheme aims to support our top violinists who have the potential and commitment to pursue an international music career as a soloist.


The Violin
  • J.B. Guadagnini of Milan, c.1750
  • Valued at S$600,000
  • Sponsored by :
    • Far East Organisation ($250,000)
    • Lee Foundation ($250,000)
    • NAC ($100,000)
  • 1st Beneficiary ¨C Siow Lee Chin (loan period Jan 2000 ¨C Dec 2005)
  • The violin will remain a state property.

Terms of Loan
The violin will be on loan to each artist for an initial period of 3 years, and may be renewed for another 3 years upon review.
The entire loan period will not exceed a total of 6 years for each artist.


Application for the Scheme
  • NAC will invite application from the public 1 year before the expiry of the existing loan period.
  • Interested candidate may have to undergo auditions and submit the following:
    • Letter of application outlining candidate¡¯s qualifications and future career plans, including forthcoming performances
    • Cv
    • A selection of candidate¡¯s recordings of public performances within the last 12 months

Selection Criteria

A 6-member Advisory Committee appointed by NAC was established to identify and select the violinist for the Scheme:
  • Bernard Tan (Chairman)
  • Goh Yew Lin
  • Lynette Lim
  • Lynette Seah
  • William Tan
  • Yan Yin Wing

Selection Criteria as listed below:
  • show potential to carve an international music career as a violin soloist
  • Singapore citizen or PR
  • 35 years and below at time of application
  • good track record of performing achievements, which include having performed solo recitals and concerto performances with internationally established orchestras. Awards won at international violin competitions would be an added advantage
