‘The love of humanity’
The word ‘philanthropy’ comes from its Greek derivatives, ‘philanthropos’ and ‘philanthropia’ – which translate to ‘loving humanity’ or ‘loving what it is to be human’.
How apt, then, that philanthropy to the arts upholds that highest of ideals – that of loving humanity, loving what it is to be human, loving life itself.
For what does the arts do but reflect, express and personify the very essence of humanity and of life itself?
Giving to the arts, giving to humanity
There are many ways we can contribute to the arts and show our love of humanity.
Companies may choose to support one of NAC’s festivals or an arts group. Learn about the various benefits you stand to gain by supporting the arts and why the arts is good for business.
Individuals can do their part too. Visit give2arts.sg to donate or volunteer with a charitable arts organisation.
