Open Call for Arts Creation Fund 2012

The Arts Creation Fund (ACF) supports the creation of original high-quality works that explore Asian subject matter by providing artists with resources to support their artistic works in the developmental phase. The objective is to build a repository of Singapore-made works that have the potential to be staged or presented.

National Arts Council Scholarships

Lead the change in Singapore’s arts and cultural scene. The NAC Management Scholarship gives you the opportunity to develop as a leader in shaping arts and cultural policies. The NAC Arts Scholarship supports your career aspirations in arts education, creative writing, curatorship, production design, traditional arts and others.

National Arts Council - IOWA International Writing Program 2012

The National Arts Council (NAC), Singapore, in partnership with the University of Iowa's International Writing Program (IWP), is offering a fully-paid three month residency award to a Singaporean writer for the 2012 intake from 25 August - 13 November 2012.

All applications, complete with a full set of supporting documents, must reach the NAC by 5pm on 2 April 2012.

Open Call for Visual Art Residency in Paris

The NAC is calling for applications for a 3 -month residency programme at the Centre International d'Accueil et d'Echanges des Récollets Paris organized by the Dena Foundation for Contemporary Art starting September 2012. Open to visual artists practicing in all mediums, the residency is a good opportunity to broaden your international network, garner exposure and possibly present your work in France. Interested? Beyond Words: Young and Younger 2011

Beyond Words is a new initiative that aims to encourage the creation of high quality literature from Singapore that can potentially leave its mark in the international marketplace across multiple media platforms. Selected manuscripts will be developed by our appointed publishers into print, eBooks and/or apps. Beyond Words kicks off its pilot phase, Young and Younger, with a focus on quality children’s literature.

Submission of manuscripts is now open and the closing dates are 15 January 2012 for children’s picture books, and 15 April 2012 for chapter books and YA novels. Click here for details on the application form and guidelines.

Original Works By Local Composers Recognised at the 2011 National Piano and Violin Competition (12 Dec 2011)
For the first time, the 2011 National Piano and Violin Competition (NPVC) recognised original compositions by four local composers – Emily Koh, Denise Lee, Bernard Lee Kah Hong and Eric James Watson. Specially written for this event, these compositions were shortlisted from more than 30 entries, submitted during an open call for original works between April to June this year.

Singapore Writers Festival 2011 closes on a high note (03 Nov 2011)
Singapore Writers Festival (SWF) 2011 capped the wide-ranging nine-day Festival with a raucous tongue-in-cheek closing debate, weighing the motion: “This House Would Trade English for Singlish”. Featuring Singaporean writers in the debating teams, the two teams sparred over the place of Singlish in literature and the larger society. Singapore’s premier creative writing competition attracts bumper crop of aspiring literary talents (28 Oct 2011)
A bumper crop of 750 entries from 670 participants were received for the NAC-SPH Golden Point Award 2011. Compared to the 2009 edition of the competition, the number of entries and number of participants increased significantly by 39% and 48% respectively. Find out More...
 
The Arts Continue To Enjoy Growing Patronage (30 Sep 2011)
249 sponsors will be conferred the Arts Supporter Award and the Patron of the Arts Awards in recognition for their past year’s contributions to nurture the Singapore arts scene. Between the 214 corporations and 35 individuals, $26.6 million was pledged to the arts in 2010. This is an increase of $4.5 million from the $22.1 million received from the 201 corporations and 39 individuals in 2009, a 20% jump from the previous year. In 2010, 64 of the 249 sponsors were first-time donors who will join the ranks of the 185 repeat and long-term arts patrons. This increase is an indication of sponsors taking a greater stake in growing and developing the Singapore arts scene. Find out More...

Twelve Creative Professionals Step Forward as Noise Singapore’s New Mentors (11 Aug 2011)

2011 National Indian Music Competition Recognises Young Talents Under 12 (24 Jun 2011)
The 2011 National Indian Music Competition recognised young talents this year, with a total of 12 winners in the junior category. Organised by the National Arts Council (NAC), this is the first year the Council has introduced a junior category for this competition, providing an opportunity for children under 12 to compete with those within their age group. A Festival to Remember for Artists and Audiences (08 Jun 2011)
The Singapore Arts Festival celebrated the end of its three-week run with two free mass events - a four-hour-karaoke session and a live dangdut concert party - at the Festival Village on 5 June 2011. NAC Announces 25% Boost In Fresh Funds For One-year Major Grant Groups in FY2011 (30 Mar 2011)
The National Arts Council (NAC) announced today that 16 arts companies will be the beneficiaries of $1.92 million through its one-year Major Grant scheme in FY2011.
