With the conclusion of the 2012 Arts Festival, NAC announced that a review of the Singapore Arts Festival will be conducted to chart its future direction. A 17-member Arts Festival Review committee comprising individuals from the arts community and related public agencies was formed to examine the role of the Festival in today’s context and make recommendations with regards to its programming direction and operating model. Details on the Review Committee can be found here.
Through the review, NAC hopes to build a stronger Arts Festival that remains relevant and engages Singaporeans, and one that reflects greater ownership from the local arts community.
Recommendations by the Review Committee
The Review Committee concluded their review process and announced their recommendations to the public on 11 January 2013. This comes as a culmination of more than six months of discussions, including insights gathered from six public feedback sessions with more than 100 practitioners and members of the public.
The Review Committee’s recommendations emphasized the need for artistic excellence and diversity within the arts scene, as fundamental pillars of success for future editions of the Arts Festival.

Over the next few months, NAC will study the various implementation options, in consultation with the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth. We expect to be able to share some of these details with the public in March 2013.
Setting up of Arts Festival Limited
Following the Committee’s recommendations, NAC announced on 2 May 2013 that a new company, Arts Festival Limited, will be set up to organise and manage the Singapore Arts Festival from 2014 onwards. This company will be incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG) governed by an independent Board.
In line with the recommendations, Arts Festival Limited will be headed by a CEO, with a Festival Director on a term basis to curate the Festival. Ms Lee Chor Lin (Director of the National Museum of Singapore) has been appointed its CEO, along with Mr Ong Keng Sen (Artistic Director of Theatreworks) as its first Festival Director.
