Noise Singapore

An initiative of the National Arts Council, Noise Singapore is dedicated to making “noise” about the creative talent of young people aged 35 and below. Through numerous platforms to express, develop and showcase their creativity, Noise Singapore hopes to encourage young people in Singapore to actively participate and nurture their relationship with the arts, as well as get them spotted for their budding abilities.

Programmes and Participative Initiatives

This unique youth arts platform features a variety of opportunities that encourage participation and engagement on all levels. The 2012 line-up of programmes includes:

Open Categories

This is an open platform for young people below 35 years, to submit original works of art, design, photography or music. A panel of industry experts will evaluate their submissions, and top entries will be showcased on Noise Singapore’s various platforms. Top-rated artists also stand to win the Noise Singapore Prize, comprising a prize grant of $5,000. Submissions can be made via Noise Singapore’s website and the open call ends 25 September 2011.

Mentorships - The Apprenticeship Programme (TAP) and The Music Mentorship (TMM)

These programmes pair aspiring young talent with experienced professionals from the creative industry for a short season of mentoring. These mentoring sessions will last 10 weeks, from October to December 2011. Under the guidance of their mentors, shortlisted participants would be required to produce an original project of their own, and will perform or display it at a Noise Singapore showcase event in 2012. TAP covers the areas of Art, Design and Photography, while TMM addresses the field of Music. Interested applicants should register on Noise Singapore’s website before 28 August 2011 for TAP and 25 September 2011 for TMM.

Festival Showcases

To wrap up the festival, Noise Singapore will feature a series of events showcasing the works created by Noise artists, from the open category submissions and mentorships. This includes an anchor exhibition, TAP group show as well as music concerts at the Esplanade. The festival showcase will be held from late February to March 2012.

Noise regularly invites prominent experts from the creative industry to run workshops for the Noise community. These workshops expose participants to a broader range of art genres and topics, as well as enable participants to learn directly from these creative professionals, as they share industry knowledge and expertise.
