SPH-NAC Golden Point Award 2009 The SPH-NAC Golden Point Award (GPA) is Singapore’s national and premiere creative writing competition. It is the only national literary writing competition to have two main categories – short story and poetry – in the four major languages of Singapore: English, Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil. It is also one of the few competitions with no age restrictions.
This year it was held in conjunction with the Singapore Writers Festival 2009, co-organised by the National Arts Council (NAC) and The Arts House. The GPA aims to identify and nurture new creative writing talent through enrichment grants presented to the top-prized winners and to create a conducive environment for creative thinking and literary expression in Singapore. This year a total of 453 participants sent in 560 entries in all eight categories.
The SPH-NAC GPA is co-organised by the NAC and The Arts House, and sponsored by Singapore Press Holdings and Singapore Press Holdings Foundation.
Aims of the GPA:
Identify new creative writing talent
Promote the art of creative writing
Encourage talented local writers to strive for the highest level of literary skill
Create a conducive environment for creative thinking and literary expression in Singapore
