Noise Singapore Festival 2006
Kicking off in May was the Noise Singapore Festival 2006. It is a unique festival that spurs youths to create fresh and original works, which will be showcased via the accessible media platforms like the internet, radio, television, newspapers and mobile phones to a wide audience.

Encouraged by the enthusiastic public response last year, the festival brings youth talent showcase to a new level with the launch of its Apprenticeship Programme. Youth talents will get rare opportunities to be mentored under prominent figures in the creative industries from Singapore and UK. The mentors hail from the art, design, music and photography industries and include Phunk Studio’s Jackson Tan, The Oddfellows’ Patrick Chng, Shooting Gallery Asia’s Sebastian Tan and Zip Design’s Peter Chadwick. As movers of the creative scene, they offer a wealth of expertise and insight that can nurture their apprentices and give them a head start in the creative industries.

On top of the apprenticeships, youths aged 25 and below can participate in the Open Categories and Competitions. For Open Categories, they can submit works under three categories, namely Art & Design, Music and Photography. Unrestricted by theme, participants in the Open Categories can challenge their fertile minds to express, invent and discover.

For Competitions, youths stand a chance to score attractive prizes and see their winning designs realised on tubes of Pringles chips, covers of Sony-BMG’s Sex in the City music CDs and as contents for StarHub’s infotainment platforms – Digital Cable, Mobile and Online services and MSN emoticons, display pictures and backgrounds.

Watch out for the explosive Festival Showcase in November on the media platforms across print, broadcast and web and at events. To further maximise artist exposure, the public will be invited to vote for their favourite works, the results of which will be announced this December.
