About the Competition
The National Indian Music Competition was first organised in 1998 by the National Arts Council and serves as a platform for music excellence. It aims to develop the performing skills of musicians in Singapore; to improve musical standards; and to identify potential music talents. It provides opportunities for young musicians to perform in a competitive situation before an international jury.
The National Indian Music Competition (NIMC) will now be held every three years, with the 7th edition of NIMC to take place in June 2011. The NIMC was formerly a biennial event for the past six seasons since its debut in 1998.
The 7th NIMC continues to have diverse categories for budding talents to shine. They include an Ensemble Category, and a Solo Section. For the Solo Section, participants can choose to play from seven different instruments – Carnatic Vocal, Veena, Violin, Flute, Mridangam, Sitar and Tabla. Look out for more information in the coming months!
