The South East District Arts Festival 2009 – ARTXpressions — seeks to provide the community with opportunities to engage spontaneously in different modes of expressions in arts ranging from traditional art forms to graffiti arts and playwriting.
The highlight of the festival will be a community performance of Chinese Opera in collaboration with the Chinese Opera Institute, which will bring an appreciation of this traditional art form to a wider audience.
South East CDC will also be partnering TheatreWorks (Singapore) to organise the annual 24-Hour Playwriting Competition, along with a series of dramatised reading tours.
Graffiti Xpressions will feature graffiti workshops for youths conducted by professional artists, followed by a competition among the participating schools where winners will have the opportunity to have their creative works of art displayed at public venues for the festival period. There will also be a showcase of arts performances, exhibitions and workshops by various GROs within the South East District.
